He gave his eldest daughter Mercedes the name of this race car and participated in a race in Nice and won first place. Following this success, Emil Jellinek ordered 36 more cars from Daimler and stipulated that these cars should bear the Mercedes name. After the success of sales, Daimler named the vehicles it produced after 1901 as Mercedes.
